Palm Springs Writers Guild Scholarship

We are pleased to announce that the PSWG scholarship program will offer two scholarships in 2023, in the amounts of $3,000 and $2,000. The Guild supports the efforts of high schools to inspire young writers.

Application Criteria:

  1. Reside within the boundaries of Desert Sands Unified, Palm Springs Unified, or Coachella Valley Unified School Districts
  2. Current Senior at a public or private school, applying to college
  3. Compose two essays:
    • First essay prompt: Why is writing important to you, and how will this scholarship help you? 1,000-1,500 words.
    • Second essay prompt: Describe a community service experience and how it changed your point of view. 500 words

How to Submit:

Send to judalonmanes@gmail.com in two Word or PDF documents, attached to an email introducing yourself. Essays must be double- spaced, size 10 Calibri or Arial font.

Deadline 11:59 PM Friday, March 24, 2023.

Please include the following information at the top of both essays:

  • Full name
  • High school currently attending
  • Call/text phone number
  • Your email address
  • Word count, each essay

The Palm Springs Writers Guild elevates and celebrates aspiring and seasoned writers throughout the Coachella Valley. The Guild supports and encourages those who write fiction and non-fiction, memoirs, screenplays, and poetry via our Insider Workshops and Writing Labs, prestigious speakers, critique groups, a popular Book Fair, and more. The Guild seeks to expand and enhance its community of writers with a variety of judged writing contests and a dynamic scholarship program for area students.

Volunteers are always needed and welcome to help us launch and run this program. Please contact Judalon Manes, Director of Education if you would like to get involved.
