10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Riviera Resort, Palm Springs, 1600 N Indian Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, CA 92262, Royal Room 1. Park in Ballroom parking spaces for free parking.

Schedule: Beginning at 10:00 a.m.;  LUNCH 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Beginning at 1:30 p.m to 3:00 p.m. Ample time for questions at end. Workshop over promptly at 3 p.m.

Workshop Description:
Many writers of nonfiction works become frustrated when they send out their book proposals to publishing houses only to be rejected time and time again. By inadvertently doing the wrong things, they almost guarantee poor results. Fortunately, there are a number of steps they can take to maximize the odds that their proposals will be accepted by the best publisher for their work.

This workshop explores the ten most common errors that writers make when submitting their proposals--errors that are likely to kill their chances of getting their material reviewed by an editor. It then presents nine rules that increase the odds of getting a nonfiction book accepted by an appropriate house that can produce and market it with success.

PSWG interactive Writers’ Workshops offer paid attendees the opportunity to learn and participate in a friendly learning environment, network with an industry professional and meet fellow writers.

About this workshop facilitator:

Rudy Shur began his publishing career working for college textbook publishers: first with Charles E. Merrill Publishing Company and later with William C. Brown Publishing Company. He began working as a field representative and then became an associate editor. In 1976, he cofounded Avery Publishing Group, where he was responsible for the acquisition of over 1,000 nonfiction titles, many of which became bestsellers. By 1999, the company had grown into one of the largest alternative health publishers in the US. That year, Avery was purchased by Penguin Putnam.

In 2000, Mr. Shur founded Square One Publishers in Garden City Park, New York, where he currently heads the editorial program. Over the years, Square One has been selected by Publishers Weekly as one of the fastest growing independent publishing houses in the country. He is also the author of How to Publish Your Nonfiction Book. Mr. Shur lectures extensively on the topic of publishing at numerous universities, colleges, and professional workshops throughout the country.
